Job Title: Community Relations Coordinator

Reports To: Marketing Director

Pay Range: Starting at $22/hour, based on experience and aptitude

Summary: The Community Relations Coordinator of the Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau’s primary duties involve managing promotional campaigns and media relations while supporting sales and marketing efforts with objectives being to increase awareness of travel opportunities to the Bowling Green area, providing creative support and leadership to all CVB campaigns, along with other duties as directed by the Marketing Director.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Write and distribute releases to the media securing appropriate placement.
  • Maintain accurate record of all releases distributed and post to CVB website.
  • Manage multiple social media accounts across multiple platforms — Facebook, Instagram, X (2 accounts), Pinterest, and LinkedIN. Responsible for strategizing, executing and community management of all platforms. This includes creating and managing ads on Facebook and Instagram. Also includes occasionally taking photos and creating video reels for social content and acquiring user generated content.
  • Write, edit and/or proofread copy for online and print materials, which may include web copy, letters, emails, flyers, brochures, etc. Write articles upon request from magazines and newspapers for publication.
  • Respond to incoming media inquiries and maintain a photo library for media use. Develop and distribute media kits and press packages.
  • Manage and coordinate social media influencers to the area + develop itineraries and host on occasion. Rare weekends and after 5pm hosting may be required.
  • Plan and host familiarization tours for media, writers, and PR firm reps when needed.
  • Work closely with the contracted PR firm to develop, direct and implement PR strategies including proactive development of story ideas and responding in a timely manner to reactive pitches. Develop and maintain local, regional and national media lists beyond the contacts associated with PR firm.
  • Post on social media and archive in Simpleview published articles resulting from CVB efforts and determine value and/or reach. Create a monthly report of efforts for the board of directors.
  • Maintain a database of media including newspaper, magazine, television, and radio. Coordinate radio, TV, and newspaper mentions/appearances for major tourism events. Develop local PSA campaigns and organize news conferences.
  • Write talking points and help prepare staff for media interviews.
  • Track daily reports of Bowling Green mentions on multiple online news monitoring platforms.
  • Manage and maintain Simpleview CRM records and CMS media section, including news releases and blog posts.
  • Send out weekly events reports (CRM events report) to industry partners.
  • Creates, edits, and executes monthly e-newsletter for leisure subscribers and a bi-weekly newsletter called Tourism Transmission for local hotel industry and CVB partners.
  • Attend tourism educational seminars and possible other professional organizations. Represent the area at state-organized PR and pitch meetings. Requires some light travel up to four times a year, mostly in-state.
  • Contribute to Chamber of Commerce efforts by coordinating joint attendance at WKU TOP orientation, info fairs, speaking engagements; submitting Chamber Message Board copy; participating in tourism-related ribbon cuttings and events when needed.
  • Cover receptionist during lunch breaks at the Visitors Center, which includes answering the phone, assisting visitors and gift shop sales.
  • Maintain a cohesive working relationship with all Bureau personnel to ensure a unified and effective promotional effort.
  • Maintain a database of tourism journalists who would be appropriate to pitch.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local tourism stakeholders, and lead the creation and execution of community-based advocacy campaigns and engagement programs that elevate the destination and support local partners.

The Bowling Green Area Convention & Visitors Bureau seeks a Community Relations Coordinator to positively impact the Bowling Green/Warren County economy by driving revenue through tourism. This position will host writers, work with a professional PR firm, be responsible for posting on all social media platforms, writes articles and blogs, and must be willing to travel.

This full-time position includes a comprehensive benefits package. Office hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.
