Community Outreach Manager 

Reports to: Owner/General Manager 
Location: Charlotte – Lake Norman
Position Type:  Part-Time to Full-Time

Role Overview 

The Community Outreach Manager supports HAWKs (Hiking Adventures With Kids) by building strong relationships within the local community to drive awareness, grow enrollment, and increase family engagement. 

This role focuses on developing partnerships with schools, PTAs, parent groups, and nature organizations, representing HAWKs at community events, and helping connect families to HAWKs. As a key local ambassador for the business, this person ensures the community knows about and engages with the programs offered. 

Key Responsibilities 

1. Local School & Community Partnerships 

  • Build and maintain relationships with school principals, PTAs, parent booster clubs, and community leaders to promote HAWKs.
  • Identify target schools based on proximity to trails, parks, and green spaces suitable for HAWKs programming.
  • Create new partnerships with nature centers, libraries, parent organizations, and other community groups to expand awareness and drive referrals.
  • Act as the liaison between HAWKs and schools or community organizations, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration.
  • Maintain consistent follow-up to nurture relationships and strengthen long-term community ties.

2. Local Outreach & Marketing Support 

  • Develop and execute outreach plans tailored to Lake Norman and surrounding areas, including setting goals and timelines.
  • Distribute promotional materials — flyers, brochures, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure outreach campaigns align with HAWKs’ brand standards.
  • Partner with parent influencers, local businesses, and family organizations to amplify outreach and generate referrals.

3. Event Planning & Community Engagement 

  • Plan, organize, and attend local events to represent HAWKs, including:
  • School fairs and PTA events
  • Parent info nights and open houses
  • Nature workshops and family activity demos
  • HAWKs-hosted events in the community
  • Manage event logistics, including scheduling, materials, invitations, and promotions.
  • Engage with families at events, answering questions and highlighting the benefits of HAWKs programs.
  • Follow up with leads from events to help convert interest into enrollment.

4. Local Insights & Reporting 

  • Track outreach activities, including school contacts, event attendance, and referrals generated.
  • Report weekly or monthly to the ownership and management on:
  • Community partnerships built
  • Event performance and attendance
  • New leads generated and enrolled families
  • Feedback from schools, parents, and partners
  • Provide insights into local family needs, demographics, and trends to help inform programming and marketing decisions.

Qualifications 

  • Education & Experience
  • BA/BS in Marketing, Communications, Environmental Education, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in outreach, partnerships, event planning, school relations, or local marketing.
  • Experience working with schools, PTAs, or parent organizations is highly preferred.
  • Community & Relationship Skills
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to build authentic, lasting partnerships.
  • Comfortable presenting at school meetings, community events, and family workshops.
  • Marketing & Event Skills
  • Experience planning, promoting, and hosting events for families or schools.
  • Basic familiarity with creating flyers, newsletters, or social content (corporate assets provided).
  • Communication Skills
  • Confident public speaking and excellent written communication.
  • Ability to represent HAWKs professionally and enthusiastically within the local community.
  • Organizational Skills
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple outreach activities simultaneously.
  • Comfortable tracking leads, reporting on outreach efforts, and staying accountable to local goals.
