University Communications and Marketing provides strategic leadership to protect, advance, and elevate the university's brand and reputation in Indiana and around the world by creating guiding resources for and collaborating with communications and marketing partners across all IU campuses, schools, departments, and centers.
Job Summary
This position reports directly to the Director of Social Media and is located within the Indiana University (IU) Content Team. Through the usage of social media platforms, Indiana University seeks to tell the stories of our campus community, research, and impact through creative, engaging, and innovative content. The IU Content team is seeking student interns for the fall 2026, who are passionate about depicting what it means to be a Hoosier through photography, videography, and trending content adaptations, this is an opportunity to work with a global brand that serves a standard of best practice for communications implementation across higher education.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Ideates, creates, and be featured in, vertical video in partnership with IU Content Team leadership that is in alignment with university priorities, events, initiatives.
- Develops high-quality content that encourages sharing, engagement, and elevation of the IU brand.
- Strategies and appears in vertical video.
- Shoots, edits, and records photography, videography, and audio interviews.
- Suggests and creates digital content (memes, gifs, graphics, animations, illustrations) for Indiana University accounts.
- Evaluates and suggests trends for brand adoption and adaptation.
- Serves as an advocate and ally of IU, elevates community concerns and identifies content opportunities that prioritize resources and information.
- Analyzes content performance, measures success and determines adjustments or optimization. Works collaboratively with staff and uses leadership.
- Communicates strategy across the institution and initiative areas.
- Researches and makes recommendations on best practices for priority initiatives to reach target audiences on a variety of platforms.
- Monitors and reports on trends and technologies and applies knowledge to develop new strategies and tactics.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
SKILLS
Required
- Knowledge of communications channels; publications, web, and multimedia with an understanding of online/social media strategy and savviness with platform
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects
- Experience with Illustrator
- Demonstrates experience in visual storytelling, including vertical video production, editing, trend adaptation, audio selection, and transitions
- Ability to efficiently and creatively apply brand standards to various projects
- Ability to be comfortable utilizing personal devices, technology, and equipment
Preferred
- Ability to be passionate about highlighting the Hoosier experience for prospective and incoming students
- Ability to create awareness of events and opportunities for current students, and fostering connections with alumni, fans, and friends of the IU
- Enthusiastic and uncompromising about ensuring Indiana University is always seen as a primary influencer in social communications both among our peers and in the world
- Ability to be passionate about the success of initiative teams
Work Location
Bloomington, Indiana or Indianapolis, Indiana.
Advertised Salary
$15.00 per hour
