Job Summary:
Restaurant Brands International, parent company of Burger King®, Tim Hortons®, Popeyes®, and Firehouse Subs is excited to hire a Manager of Public Relations and Internal Communications for Burger King North America. We are seeking a communications expert who is ready to tell the story of one of the world’s most loved restaurant brands to external and internal audiences.
This role will be responsible for managing the external communications strategy development, executions and workstreams across proactive and corporate media relations (national and local), earned influencer relations, partnerships and events, thought leadership, crisis, and reporting to drive mass awareness and business results. The role is also responsible for leading internal communications with corporate employees and owned brand channels for Burger King North America. This including all internal communications from brand-wide emails to quarterly in-person meetings and managing the Burger King LinkedIn and newsroom. This role will help translate business priorities to connect dots across audiences and make communications more impactful and effective. This is a great opportunity for a passionate individual to understand the various aspects of communications and initiatives that come to life across various audiences.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who loves storytelling and is a creative, talented relationship-builder who can work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. They can use metrics to inform strategy, quantify success and glean insights to inform future plans.
This role reports to the Director, PR & Communications for Burger King, and has the unique opportunity to support across the BK communications, leadership and marketing teams and the larger global corporate communications team at RBI.
Key Responsibilities:
Public Relations (60%)
- 360 National Media Relations program and strategy creation: Manage programs alongside agency partners from start to finish including briefing processes and creation, PR material approvals, programming plus ups (influencers/stunts/celebrities/drops), while communicating results to leadership that demonstrate how the workstream drives, supports and achieves business goals
- Media inquiries: Handle all national local media requests on behalf of the Burger King brand by working with field teams, spokespeople, legal and agency partners
- Influencer & Celebrity Relations: vet & approve celebrity and influencer lists, coordinate product deliveries with our field teams to ensure top product quality, support earned drop strategy and execution, circulate paid content for approvals
- Media Materials: Review and circulate all media materials to key stakeholders (legal) for review and approval – press releases, pitches, Q&A documents, briefs, key assets
- Thought Leadership: Support coordination of executive media opportunities and leadership prep to ensure the outcome is being leveraged across organic content
- Crisis: Support crisis management process, benchmark tracking and reporting
- Newsroom: Manage and maintain Burger King Newsroom platform, including content calendar, content creation, measurement, and collaboration with digital teams & cross functional team as we refine for best results, inclusive of blog posts and final press releases
- Brand Relevance: Be obsessed with all things culture and actively seek opportunities to jump into conversations that generate media placements.
- Be agile and adjust communication plans and strategy based on the needs of the business.
- Build strong relationships, work cross-functionally and remain agile to keep a pulse on business priorities.
Internal Communications (25%)
- Build 360 internal communications strategies for employee engagement tied to marketing & business programs
- Mange internal communication platforms to highlight marketing initiatives, important team updates, and recognitions
- Lead the end-to-end experience of the quarterly BK Townhall meetings
- Management of internal events, desk drops, & office takeovers in support of marketing and business initiatives
- Merchandise communications results for internal reporting and insights-driven planning and execution
- Be agile and adjust communication plans and strategy based on the needs of the business and as real time campaigns come to life
- Build strong relationships and work cross-functionally to keep a pulse on business priorities and advise leadership on the most effective way to deliver messages
- Refine current practices and distribution lists in partnership with HR for stronger communications to a targeted audience
- Work in partnership with franchisee communications to translate franchisee-facing business/marketing priorities to the internal team
Owned Channels (15%)
- Lead the Popeyes and Brand President LinkedIn strategy, including content calendar, content creation, measurement, and paid programs while collaborating cross-functionally
- Lead BK newsroom strategy driving overall Burger King narrative in support of multi-year business objectives
- Create process around content capturing and creation adapted for effective storytelling
- Implement and drive channel measurement and analysis to provide recommendations that optimize content for future initiatives
Qualifications:
- Completion of an undergraduate degree of diploma in Public Relations, Communications and/or a related field
- 3+ years applicable experience
- Success managing multiple platforms and content types for internal and external audiences
- Knowledge of communications measurement best practices and using insights to drive strategy and planning.
- High attention to detail and creative thinking to solve problems
- Strong interpersonal skills and an eagerness to collaborate with colleagues and learn
- Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and can manage multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines and objectives
- Strong organizational and work management skills
- Public relations agency experience considered an asset
