To meet this moment, UJA-Federation of New York is launching a series of new organizational initiatives designed to mobilize our community quickly and effectively. This requires marketing that’s timely, compelling, and strategic—able to cut through the noise, support fast-moving advocacy efforts, and inspire broad communal engagement. Strong, responsive marketing is essential to activating our community and bridging differences.
About this opportunity
UJA is looking for a Marketing & Communications Strategist, Advocacy and Civic Engagement to play a key role in shaping and executing marketing communications that inspire civic participation, showcase UJA’s impact across the community, and advance UJA’s mission. This is a multifaceted role that blends strategic communications, project management, and compelling storytelling during a moment of heightened engagement and urgency.
The ideal candidate brings experience in political campaigns or similarly fast-paced, mission-driven environments and is an exceptional communicator—both written and verbal. They’re an imaginative, solutions-oriented thinker who thrives in a collaborative environment and balances big-picture strategy with meticulous execution. In this role, they will mobilize donors, community partners, and Jewish New Yorkers to deepen engagement and drive action.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Creation & Writing
- Develop and support marketing efforts for civic engagement and government relations initiatives
- Work with internal and external partners on influencer strategy to advance civic engagement work
- Turn complex program and policy information into tight messaging that’s easy to understand and motivate people to get involved
- Adapt messaging and tone to support different goals, including advocacy efforts, community mobilization, and engagement initiatives
- Work closely with the Director, Brand & Marketing to ensure all content reflects UJA’s voice, values, and priorities
- Use AI tools (such as ChatGPT) to support research, brainstorming, and drafting while maintaining quality and accuracy
- Use UJA’s photo library and visual assets to support consistent, compelling storytelling
Team Collaboration, Project Management and Execution
- Serve as lead strategic marketing partner to colleagues across government and external relations work and other internal stakeholders
- Build positive, collaborative working relationships across teams
- Communicate clearly and proactively throughout projects, helping keep work moving smoothly and on track
- Manage marketing projects from start to finish, coordinating timelines, deliverables, and next steps
- Work with colleagues across Government Relations, Community Mobilization, and other teams to execute campaigns
- Create and track project plans and timelines to ensure deadlines are met
- Use Workfront and other project management tools to organize work and coordinate with internal design, web, and email teams
QUALIFICATIONS
- One-two years of political campaign experience or similar
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a keen sense of brand voice
- Knowledge of Jewish communal landscape across NY
- Knowledge of influencer space as it relates to political and civic engagement
- Strategic thinker who can move fluidly between big-picture vision and tactical execution
- Agile, swift, and unflappable team player with strong work ethic, who’s resourceful, self-directed, and comfortable managing up, down, and across teams
- Strong, visual thinker who can tell stories through both words and images
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in marketing, writing, communications, or account/project management
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving and prioritization skills. (left brain + right brain)
- Strong interest in advocacy/civic engagement, Jewish communal life, programs, and initiatives preferred
- Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, can-do attitude
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other creative tools a plus

Salary Range:
$50 per hour; working 10-15 hours per week.
