As a Public Relations Associate, you will be instrumental in promoting and supporting the mission and impact of Habitat for Humanity of Omaha. The Public Relations Associate will support and lead numerous critical communications efforts, including developing content that drives audience engagement, managing media relations, and developing and executing communication strategies. Your work connects Habitat Omaha with the communities it serves, its partners, and team members to ensure our message reaches those who can join us in supporting our efforts to increase affordable housing opportunities and make homeownership possible for first-time home buyers.

Requirements: What You’ll Do

Amplify Habitat Omaha's Mission

  • Support and execute public relations campaigns that elevate Habitat Omaha’s brand and deepen community awareness.
  • Craft and publish press releases, newsletters, blog posts, and social media content that effectively communicate programs, progress, and impact.

Lead Media Relations Efforts

  • Proactively pitch stories, respond to media inquiries, coordinate media tours, and arrange interviews with Habitat Omaha executives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local and regional media contacts, influencers, and community leaders.
  • Maintain and update an online media resource center to support ongoing media engagement.

Tell Powerful, Mission-Driven Stories

  • Interview homeowners, families, volunteers, partners, and staff to create compelling narratives that resonate with donors and supporters.
  • Develop engaging digital content that inspires action and showcases the importance of affordable homeownership.

Support Events & Public Engagement

  • Assist with public-facing events, media opportunities, and on-site communications needs.
  • Coordinate logistics and messaging for press conferences, community activations, and special initiatives.

Strengthen Internal & External Communications

  • Support internal communication efforts, including content development and management of the employee intranet.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and coordinated outreach across departments and organizational priorities.

Monitor and Measure Impact

  • Track, analyze, and report on public relations efforts to assess reach, sentiment, and effectiveness.
  • Support crisis communication planning and brand risk mitigation as part of the crisis communications team.

Contribute as a Collaborative Team Member

  • Work cross-functionally to support aligned communication strategies.
  • Take on additional responsibilities that promote Habitat Omaha’s mission and public image.

What You Bring

Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in public relations, communications, or community relations.

Skills & Strengths:

  • Exceptional communication: Strong written and verbal communication with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
  • Digital fluency: Familiarity with web-based communications tools, email systems, analytics tools (Google Analytics, Facebook Insights), and Microsoft/Adobe platforms.
  • Strategic thinking: Ability to integrate PR, marketing, advocacy, and social media into cohesive campaigns.
  • Relationship-building: Proven ability to engage with community stakeholders, partners, media, and diverse audiences.
  • Adaptability: Able to manage multiple projects in a fast-moving environment with professionalism and positivity.
  • Creative mindset: Skilled in conceptual thinking; photography/videography experience is a plus.
