As the Communications leader, you will lead strategic communications for the Cardiac Surgery and Aortic Operating Unit. Reporting to the President of Cardiac Surgery and Aortic, and functionally to the VP CV Communications, you will lead the development and execution of integrated communication strategies that drive business growth. You will champion patient storytelling, executive visibility, thought leadership, earned and owned media and employee engagement through bold, innovative ideas and a commitment to global, audience-centric communications.
This individual must be change-agile and have deep domain expertise in integrated communications, including public relations, internal communications, change management, issues management, and executive thought leadership.
The individual should be comfortable providing counsel and coaching to sr. leadership and working as part of a cross-functional team to support integrated communications programs.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Operating Unit Strategic Communications: Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy that supports the objectives of the Cardiac Surgery and Aortic operating unit and aligns messaging with the Operating Unit President’s cultural voice and the broader Cardiovascular portfolio goals.
- Employee and Internal Communications: Develop a strategy and manage internal communications (all employee meetings, presentations, written communications, video, etc.).
- Executive and Thought Leadership: Guide executive visibility efforts and thought leadership plans across the OU, elevating the profiles of key leaders and positioning the business as an industry leader. Use expertise in internal relationship management to advise and influence those who wish to communicate and provide counsel and coaching to ensure communications are strategic and effective.
- Strategic Public Relations & Media Engagement: Build and manage strong relationships with media, analysts, and industry influencers to enhance visibility and elevate reputation internally and externally across the Cardiac Surgery and Aortic operating unit.
- Integrated Campaign Management: Lead the strategic conceptualization and execution of creative omni-channel communication campaigns that communicate the business narratives, strategy and storytelling to external audiences, including customers, investors, and strategic partners.
- Reputation and Issues Management: Proactively shape the Cardiac Surgery and Aortic operating unit's identity through traditional and new media channels—paid, earned, shared, and owned. Lead the development of response strategies to protect the company’s reputation during issues or crises.
- Performance Metrics and Analysis: Utilize data-driven insights to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies, ensuring alignment with business objectives and continuous improvement.
- Engage and partner with Global Corporate Communication and Corporate Marketing (GCCM) and Cardiovascular Communication Colleagues: Proactively engage with Cardiovascular communication and GCCM colleagues across the function to represent Cardiac Surgery and Aortic’s needs and opportunities. Collaborate to bring enterprise strategies to life within the Operating Unit and the Operating Unit strategies to life in enterprise opportunities.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements- To be considered for this role, please ensure the minimum requirements are evident in your applicant profile:
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in an integrated communications, business or corporate communications role, or 8 years with a master’s degree.
- Expertise in media, investor relations and public relations.
- Experience leading teams and contributing to a matrix leadership model.
- Strong generalist experience across multiple communications disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven ability to build trust and establish credibility with all levels of management, including executive leadership.
- Experience leading communications in a highly matrixed, global organization, with a focus on healthcare or technology.
- Expertise as a strategic advisor to business leaders, with a strong track record of driving successful communication initiatives.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated experience using metrics to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies.
- Experience with global product launches, investor relations, and managing organizational change.
- Master’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field.

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc. Base pay is based on numerous factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$174,400.00 - $261,600.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan. The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others). The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance , Health Savings Account , Healthcare Flexible Spending Account , Life insurance, Long-term disability leave , Dependent daycare spending account , Tuition assistance/reimbursement , and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
