Position Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Manager, PR and Executive Communications to lead and elevate Cumberland Farms’ public relations strategy and executive-level communications. In this role, you will develop and execute proactive and reactive media strategies, manage corporate and executive messaging, and oversee communications programs that strengthen the brand, support business objectives, and engage external stakeholders.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Media & Advertising, you will serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership, ensuring executive messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned with organizational priorities. You will manage media relations, crisis communications, and thought leadership initiatives while fostering cross-functional collaboration to maximize impact.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on, results-driven communications professional who thrives in fast-paced, high-stakes environments. You are a strong storyteller, operationally disciplined, and capable of translating complex ideas into clear, compelling messaging.
Responsibilities:
- Public Relations: Develop and execute comprehensive PR strategies that enhance brand awareness, protect reputation, and generate positive media coverage. Serve as primary media contact and manage relationships with journalists, influencers, and key external stakeholders.
- Executive Communications: Partner with senior leaders to craft and deliver internal and external messaging, including speeches, talking points, presentations, and executive announcements. Ensure messaging is consistent, compelling, and aligned with organizational priorities.
- PR Agency Management: Oversee the strategic partnership with the external PR firm, guiding overall brand positioning, executive communications, and high-impact initiatives while ensuring alignment with business priorities and organizational goals.
- Crisis & Reputation Management: Lead preparation and execution of crisis communications plans, managing sensitive information with discretion while safeguarding the company’s reputation.
- Thought Leadership & Content: Drive content development for corporate announcements, media opportunities, internal platforms, and social channels ensuring consistent brand voice and storytelling.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with marketing, brand, operations, HR, and store teams to ensure alignment of messaging, campaigns, and initiatives across the enterprise.
Working Relationships: Collaborate closely with executive leadership, marketing, brand, media, store operations, HR, and other business partners.
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or Business
Preferred Education: Master’s in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or Business
Minimum Experience: 6+ years in public relations, corporate communications, or executive communications
Preferred Experience: 8+ years with experience in PR or corporate communications in retail, consumer, high-profile, environments.

Soft Skills/Competencies:
- Strong media relations and storytelling skills, with proven success in securing positive coverage
- Expertise in developing polished, executive-level PowerPoint presentations that distill complex information into clear, compelling narratives
- Experience in executive communications and supporting senior leadership
- Crisis communications experience with the ability to manage sensitive information
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Collaborative mindset, building strong relationships across functions and with external partners
- Operationally disciplined, detail-oriented, and results-driven
- Experience leading and developing direct reports
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and communications management tools
Other Requirements:
Travel: Occasional travel may be required
Hours & Conditions: Typically Monday – Friday, 8+ hour days, 4 days per week in office with opportunity for 1 flex day from home per week contingent on job performance/business needs
Physical Requirements: Minimal physical effort required; sitting / standing at computer for long periods of time. Ability to maneuver and lift up to 10 lbs.
