Social Media & Community Manager – DATALAND
Location: On-site at DATALAND, The Grand LA, Downtown Los Angeles, CA

Salary Range: $65,000 – $70,000
Reports To: General Manager/Director of Marketing
About DATALAND:
DATALAND is the world’s first Museum of AI Arts and digital ecosystem dedicated to data visualization and AI-based creativity. DATALAND is uniting pioneers in diverse fields including the arts, science, AI research, and cutting-edge technology under the artistic leadership of Refik Anadol Studio. With its flagship location launching in Spring, 2026 at The Grand LA, in Downtown Los Angeles, DATALAND will join the renowned visual and performing arts institutions in the city’s cultural and civic corridor.
The Opportunity:
DATALAND is seeking a Social Media & Community Manager to lead the museum’s social voice, presence, and storytelling across all social platforms. Working closely with Refik Anadol Studio and the DATALAND marketing team, this role is responsible for shaping and executing social media strategy with a primary focus on Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube.
This is a highly hands-on, self-directed role that blends strategy, creative direction, and execution. The ideal candidate excels at taking ideas from concept and presentation through to implementation, with a strong sense of ownership and follow-through.
For more produced and stylized content, you will collaborate with producers, photographers, and editors to ensure work aligns with brand standards, while gathering key information and story points from studio members with relevant expertise.
When copywriting, you will use precise and approved technical language to maintain the academic integrity of DATALAND and Refik Anadol Studio, while also translating complex ideas into clear, and engaging messaging for the public.
This role requires onsite work at Refik Anadol Studio (Northeast Los Angeles) and DATALAND (Downtown Los Angeles) to capture, direct, and edit content.
Responsibilities
1. Social Media Strategy & Planning
· Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy for DATALAND’s owned platforms, aligned with brand positioning, institutional goals, and key milestones such as opening, exhibitions, programming, and community engagement.
· Plan, schedule, and monitor content performance using HubSpot and native platform tools
· Support the launch and growth of new social channels, including building accounts from scratch when needed
· Stay informed on platform updates, algorithm changes, emerging formats, and cultural trends to keep DATALAND’s social presence forward-thinking and relevant
2. Content Creation and Curation
· Capture, create, and curate compelling, on-brand content across short-form video, photography, captions, and multimedia formats
· Translate artistic process, research, and technology into engaging, accessible social storytelling
· Own content production from concept and pitch through execution and publishing
· Collaborate with producers, editors, and copywriters on technical edits to ensure content aligns with brand standards. Assist in gathering key information and story points from studio members based on their areas of expertise.
3. Platform Management & Operations
· Manage day-to-day operations across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other relevant platforms
· Schedule content, monitor performance, and optimize based on data and platform insights
· Manage and implement timely collaborative posts with partners, artists, institutions, and collaborators
4. Community Management & Audience Engagement
· Grow and nurture DATALAND’s digital community through thoughtful engagement and conversation
· Monitor social inboxes and comments for customer service–related inquiries and route appropriately to the customer service team. Respond and engage quickly with comments and basic questions.
· Support IRL community-building moments tied to museum programming, events, and partnerships
5. Campaigns, Partnerships & Collaboration
· Plan and execute social campaigns around exhibitions, openings, partnerships, and cultural moments
· Collaborate closely with DATALAND’s marketing agency and influencer management agency to manage the performance, impact, and overall health of allow-listing campaigns
· Coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure consistent messaging and smooth execution
6. Cross-Functional Leadership
· Work closely with Refik Anadol Studio production teams and
DATALAND’s creative, marketing, PR, partnerships, and operational teams
· Act as a central point of coordination for social execution across internal
stakeholders and external collaborators
7. Analytics, Reporting & Optimization
· Track, analyze, and report on social performance using HubSpot, native analytics, and third-party tools
· Provide clear insights and recommendations to optimize content strategy, timing, and channel growth
The Ideal Candidate Profile
· Highly self-directed with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
· Creative with strong cultural, visual, and editorial instincts
· An expert-level content creator comfortable shooting, editing, and
publishing across platforms
· A clear and confident communicator, both written and verbal
· Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities from concept
to execution
Core Qualifications
· 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in a Social Media Manager or similar role
· Proven experience building and scaling social channels, including launching accounts from scratch
· Deep knowledge of Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube; familiarity with platforms such as Discord is a plus
· Strong understanding of platform algorithms, emerging formats, and digital cultural trends
· Experience working with arts, culture, technology, or creative institutions strongly preferred
· Experience collaborating with marketing agencies and influencer programs
· Proficiency in photo and video editing tools
· Experience working in fast-paced environments and using project management tools such as Miro, Asana, or ClickUp
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
Work Environment & Schedule
This is an on-site leadership role requiring presence at Dataland to capture and direct content.
Schedule flexibility may be required to support openings, exhibitions, cultural events, and key programming milestones. Exempt employees are expected to manage their time to fulfill the responsibilities of the role and are not compensated based on hours worked.
