Role Description

The Social Media Administrator leads strategic planning, content development, community engagement, and performance analysis across all San Francisco SPCA social media channels. This role elevates the organization’s voice, brand presence, and mission storytelling across platforms while fostering meaningful engagement with our community.

The Social Media Administrator partners closely across departments, building relationships and deeply understanding their goals. The Social Administrator translates organizational priorities into compelling social narratives and acts as the organization’s subject-matter expert on platform trends, best practices, and digital storytelling.

Core Responsibilities

Strategic Social Planning

  • Develop and maintain the social media content calendar, proactively coordinating across departments to ensure alignment with organizational priorities, campaigns, events, and storytelling opportunities.
  • Recommend and refine social media strategy and approach based on audience insights, brand voice, emerging platform capabilities, and community input and trends.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen visibility, engagement, and differentiation for the SF SPCA across social media platforms.
  • Serve as the channel expert to utilize social media platforms for integrated marketing campaigns (paid and organic), including coordination on fundraising campaigns, adoption campaigns, veterinary service growth marketing, and ongoing evergreen activities.

Content Creation

  • Lead content ideation, development, editing, and publishing for all core platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Threads, YouTube).
  • Ensure all content reflects the SF SPCA brand voice, mission, values, and commitments to inclusivity and authentic storytelling.
  • Develop and execute a strategic video and storytelling approach, including short-form and documentary-style content.
  • Partner with internal teams to highlight stories, animals, staff, and organizational impact.

Community Engagement

  • Actively engage across platforms with our online community. Respond to comments and messages and find opportunities to engage with relevant content and posts from partners or other key entities. Help foster a welcoming, mission-centered online presence.
  • Lead moderation, tone, and escalation protocols to ensure responses are informative, empathetic, timely, and aligned with organizational values.
  • Monitor online platforms, including NextDoor and Reddit, to understand what conversations are happening and how they may relate to our work.
  • Maintain relationships with influencers, partners, volunteers, and identify new storytelling collaboration opportunities. Encourage user generated content to amplify our messaging.

Data, Insights & Optimization

  • Become the team expert in Meltwater, our online listening platform. Make recommendations and strategic guidance based on conversations and trends.
  • Track and analyze social media performance metrics and audience trends to inform content decisions.
  • Produce performance reports and recommendations for MarCom leadership.
  • Continuously test new formats, timing, messaging, and storytelling strategies to increase reach, engagement, and conversions.

Requirements:

  • Strong creative storyteller, with the ability to translate organizational priorities into compelling and emotionally resonant content.
  • Highly organized with strong planning, prioritization, and workflow coordination skills. Ability to work independently, manage changing workloads, and hit deadlines.
  • Skilled communicator with the ability to tailor tone and messaging to diverse audiences, including a warm, unbiased messaging when speaking to sensitive subjects.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable navigating shifting needs and timelines.
  • Experience interpreting analytics and applying data-driven adjustments to improve performance.
  • Photography, videography, and video editing experience. Knowledge of video editing tools preferred (Adobe Premiere Pro, Rush, CapCut, individual platform editors)
  • Preferred: experience with paid social advertising.

Salary & Benefits

The starting salary for this position depends on the depth and breadth of experience. The expected range is $77,000 - $86,000 per year.
