Marketing & Communications Coordinator
Position Overview
The Marketing & Communications Coordinator supports the implementation of Experience Olympia & Beyond’s marketing and communications initiatives. This role assists with content creation, digital engagement, asset coordination, and campaign execution under the direction of the Director of Marketing & Communications.
This position focuses on day-to-day marketing support, content coordination, and administrative execution to ensure timely delivery of marketing materials and campaigns that promote Thurston County as a destination.
Success in this role is measured by timely project execution, content accuracy, strong organizational support, and effective collaboration across departments.
Core Responsibilities
Content & Copy Support
- Draft and edit content for blogs, newsletters, website updates, visitor and community guides, and promotional materials under the direction of the Director.
- Assist with writing and formatting email communications and partner updates.
- Support the preparation of press releases and media materials.
- Take meeting notes and assist with communication summaries as assigned.
- Conduct research to support content development and campaign initiatives.
Digital, Social & Travel Media Coordination
- Vet media and influencer opportunities.
- Create, schedule and publish social media content based on established content calendars.
- Create content calendars in collaboration with Director of Marketing & Communications.
- Monitor social media engagement and flag opportunities or issues to the Director.
- Ensure website events are accurate and up to date.
- Assist with compiling social media performance metrics.
- Support website content updates using the content management system (CMS).
- Coordinate digital assets needed for campaigns and online promotions.
- Compile and track key words.
Graphic & Asset Coordination
- Create basic graphics and marketing materials using established brand guidelines.
- Coordinate with external vendors or designers as directed.
- Maintain organized digital files for photos, videos, and marketing materials.
- Assist in gathering visual content from partners and events.
Email Marketing & CRM Support
- Assist with building and distributing email newsletters.
- Maintain and update distribution lists within the CRM system.
- Support data entry and database maintenance.
- Compile performance data for reporting purposes.
Data Reporting & Administrative Support
- Provide executive assistance to Director of Marketing & Communications.
- Assist with tracking marketing performance metrics.
- Help compile data for monthly reports and board presentations.
- Maintain organized records of campaigns, assets, and marketing materials.
- Support project timelines to ensure deadlines are met.
Cross-Departmental Support
- Provide marketing support to Group Sales, Agritourism Committee, Sports Commission, Film Commission, and other organizational initiatives as directed.
- Coordinate marketing materials for events, site visits, and partner programs.
- Represent Experience Olympia & Beyond at community events as assigned.
- Distribute Visitor Guides.

- Content reflects brand standards and messaging guidance.
- Social media and email campaigns are executed consistently and accurately,
- CRM data remains organized and up to date.
- Internal teams feel supported in their marketing needs.
- Campaign performance data is compiled accurately for leadership review.
Skills Desired
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Basic graphic design proficiency (Canva or Adobe preferred).
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and digital tools.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.

Qualifications
Required
- 1–3 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Experience supporting content creation or digital marketing efforts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with social media management tools.
Preferred
- Experience working with a destination marketing organization (DMO), nonprofit, or tourism-related organization.
- Basic experience using a CMS or CRM platform.
- Experience with Canva or entry-level Adobe tools.
- Photography or video experience a plus.
Work Environment & Schedule
This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position with flexible scheduling. The role may require occasional evening or weekend support for events and community engagement. A combination of in-office and remote work may be available based on organizational needs. Occasional overnight travel.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand for long periods of time (i.e. representing Experience Olympia & Beyond at conferences, tradeshows and/or receptions), sit, talk, hear and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision requirements due to computer work. The employee will occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. The employee should be able to speak clearly and hear well when communicating over the phone and in-person. The individual must be able to travel independently to domestic and/or international destinations via commercial airlines.
