As the Manager, Marketing and PR, you will be responsible for understanding audience insights, crafting audience strategies and messages, and translating that into a flawless go-to-market (GTM) approach. You will be the strategic marketing and PR architect for this segment. This role requires you to develop and execute comprehensive marketing and public relations strategies that engage current chief executive officers and senior leaders on the topic of Inclusion & Diversity (I&D). You will partner to craft and deliver compelling content, manage omnichannel campaigns, drive executive engagement, and position SHRM leaders and voices through proactive thought leadership and media placement. Your work will be essential in advancing SHRM’s mission and accelerating I&D progress in the workplace.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning

  • Strategy Development: Formulate and implement a robust marketing, PR, and audience engagement strategy aligned to the business unit’s objectives and executive audience segments.
  • Audience Engagement: Identify and deeply understand key target audiences, tailoring messaging and channel strategy to effectively reach, influence, and mobilize senior executives.
  • GTM Alignment: Ensure marketing and communications plans are tightly aligned to initiative goals, program milestones, research releases, and stakeholder priorities.
  • Editorial Direction: Establish a clear narrative framework that connects SHRM research, programming, and executive actions into a cohesive year-round storyline.

Content Creation & Management

  • Messaging and Storytelling: Create message maps for core personas and stakeholders across workstreams; determine how and when stories unfold to build awareness, credibility, and engagement.
  • Thought Leadership Content Leadership: Over the course of the year, map and deliver high-impact content that emphasizes the value and outcomes of I&D in the workplace, leveraging SHRM research and thought leadership channels.
  • Long-Form Executive Positioning: Write and/or lead development of long-form content (e.g., bylined articles, op-eds, viewpoint pieces, executive briefs) to strengthen executive positioning and elevate SHRM’s authority on I&D.
  • Research Communications: Translate research findings into executive-ready narratives and content packages (key messages, executive summaries, talking points, FAQs, and shareable highlights) for publication and promotion.
  • Multimedia Production: Oversee development of marketing materials including executive summaries, newsletters, videos, webinars, podcasts, and other assets that resonate with the executive audience.
  • Content Customization: Use insights into audience behavior to tailor content across the customer journey—from awareness through action and retention.

Campaign Execution

  • Omnichannel Campaigns: Lead planning and execution of multi-channel marketing campaigns promoting initiative milestones, events, research, and executive engagement opportunities.
  • Real-Time Optimization: Actively monitor performance and audience response, adapting messaging and tactics in real time for maximum relevance and impact.
  • Performance Optimization: Track and analyze campaign results; make data-driven adjustments to improve effectiveness, engagement, and ROI.

PR, Media Relations & Executive/Speaker Positioning

  • Speaker Pitching & Placement: Proactively pitch and position SHRM leaders and subject matter experts for high-level speaking opportunities (conferences, executive forums, panels) and media (radio, TV, podcasts, and interviews).
  • Media Pitch Development: Develop pitch angles, media lists, outreach messages, interview prep documents, and talking points aligned to priority themes and news cycles.
  • Thought Leadership Distribution: Drive amplification of executive positioning content across earned, owned, and partner channels.
  • Relationship Building: Build and maintain relationships with key media contacts, conference organizers, producers, and industry influencers to expand reach and credibility.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Senior Executive Interaction: Work closely with internal senior leaders to incorporate insights into marketing strategies, content direction, and PR positioning.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with research, policy, events, and stakeholder teams to ensure content and campaigns are accurate, timely, and aligned.
  • Primary Contact: Serve as main point of contact for marketing and communications inquiries tied to this initiative area.

Event Management

  • Event Strategy: Scope, plan, and execute event communication plans (webinars, roundtables, executive convenings) that advance I&D priorities and elevate SHRM thought leadership.
  • Speaker Management: Identify and support speaker recruitment, briefing, and prep; ensure speakers align to event objectives and executive audience expectations.
  • Agenda & Content Support: Contribute to agenda development and event content (session descriptions, talk tracks, speaker briefs, participant resources).
  • Logistical Support: Coordinate collateral, registrations, follow-up communications, and post-event content to extend impact.

Analytics & Reporting

  • Performance Tracking: Continuously track, analyze, and report on marketing and communications performance across campaigns, content, social, and member community channels.
  • Leadership Reporting: Provide regular updates to senior leadership on activities, outcomes, and insights, highlighting trends, opportunities, and optimization recommendations.
  • Content & Channel Insights: Use analytics to determine what’s working, what’s not, and what to scale—especially for executive engagement.

Education & Experience Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, PR, business, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience and training may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Background in workforce initiatives and experience supporting behavior change campaigns strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • Required: Minimum of 7 years of progressively complex experience in marketing and/or public relations, with B2B marketing and executive-level engagement.
  • Preferred: Experience developing thought leadership, managing content calendars, and delivering measurable omnichannel campaigns.
  • Preferred: Experience pitching speakers and securing executive placements across major events and media (broadcast, radio, digital).
  • Preferred: Experience with social listening/monitoring and community content strategy.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Marketing Expertise: Strong command of marketing principles, digital marketing, and content marketing for distinct audience segments.
  • Writing & Editorial Strength: Exceptional writing skills across short-form and long-form formats, including executive positioning content and media-ready narratives.
  • Social & Community: Strong capability in social content strategy, platform best practices, social monitoring/listening, and community engagement content.
  • Tool Proficiency: Proficiency with marketing and analytics tools (e.g., CRM, email marketing, social platforms, analytics dashboards; Marketo, Salesforce).
  • Project Management: Excellent project management and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities, approvals, and deadlines with precision.
  • Data-Informed Decisioning: Ability to interpret performance data and translate it into clear recommendations.
  • Commitment to I&D: Genuine commitment to advancing Inclusion & Diversity in the workplace.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to build smart strategies and execute with discipline.

Work Environment

Hybrid Position (3 Days In-Office, 2 Days Remote):

  • This position follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office presence [three days per week] and remote work [two days per week]. Core work hours will be designated by the department. The office environment includes a standard workstation setup with collaborative spaces, while remote work requires a reliable high-speed internet connection and a suitable home workspace. Employees must maintain availability during standard business hours and adhere to company policies for both in-office and remote work.

The hiring range for this position is $105,000 to $135,000 per year. This range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
