Senior Marketing Director - PBM Solutions (Launch, Expansion, Upsell)

Role Summary

This position is responsible for driving B2B solutions (product) marketing including new product launches, product enhancements and product upsells within Express Scripts pharmacy benefits, Evicore medical benefit management and care solutions within Evernorth, Cigna’s health services unit. Scope is subject to change as the Evernorth business evolves.

This is a business-to-business (B2B) marketing role that requires understanding of B2B, healthcare and/or product marketing best practices in planning marketing strategies and overseeing tactical execution and measurement. Success is highly dependent upon successful collaboration with product leaders across the organization, with marketing partners and across the COE’s when applicable.

Focus is on the following key areas:

  • Establish strong relationships with product teams to develop a strong understanding of business and product priorities and foster partnership in launch planning.
  • Direct marketing strategy and execution to drive marketplace differentiation category building, and client adoption of new/enhanced/mature solutions (supports profitability and retention).
  • Partner to drive innovative approaches and techniques (new technologies, channels, vendors, personalization, pilots, etc.) to optimize effectiveness and results of foundational capabilities and B2B engagement, campaigns and programs.
  • Ensure marketing work is tracked and results reported with appropriate metrics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for how and when marketing can and should play a role in helping Express Scripts and Evernorth drive growth, market credibility and solution adoption.
  • Execute B2B product marketing in support of the strategic direction set by product teams and in alignment with broader Evernorth marketing strategy.
  • Lead team responsible for defining and developing business marketing strategies, execute/guide activities supporting product sales and category building: product positioning and launch planning.
  • Responsible for marketing talent/team against documented responsibilities. People management to include hiring, clarifying new responsibilities, balancing workload, assessing performance, retaining/nurturing talent.
  • Partner with key matrix partners: Product, Buyer Enablement, Specialty Marketing, Market Insights, Brand, Marketing Operations, Finalist/RFP, Client/SAM communications, Communications, Public Affairs and Growth Analytics.
  • Accountable for the development, ongoing production and associated user-reviews of marketing KPI and campaign reporting processes for product marketing.
  • Partner with Product and Growth Analytics to develop mutually agreed upon success metrics and reporting to highlight marketing activities and results, to extent possible with current MarTech (eg Marketo); as applicable, partner on business case to recommend necessary enhancements/ determine ROIs.
  • Partner with growth and retention marketing teams and COE’s to align on marketing campaign budgets, programs and timing.
  • Contribute to Evernorth integrated marketing plan development, execution, evaluation/measurements, and calibration.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years’ experience developing and implementing marketing strategies and plans
  • Experience in complex B2B sales industries with long sales cycles. Experience in Healthcare, insurance and/or PBM strongly preferred
  • Track record of leading complex marketing/communications initiatives at every stage: concept, goal setting, strategy, execution, evaluation and measurement
  • Proven ability to accurately assess B2B audience/influencer needs, understand a buying process, grasp marketplace dynamics and tailor strategies accordingly
  • Exceptionally strong collaborator with demonstrated ability to succeed in a matrixed environment by developing relationships across all levels of the organization (team, peers, leadership, senior leadership) and externally (agency management)
  • Bachelor's degree is required, graduate degree preferred
  • Financial acumen; ideally with demonstrated ability to manage marketing budget

  • Familiarity with Marketo, Pardot, Eloqua and/or other Marketing automation tools
  • Understanding of social media strategy within B2B mix
  • Ideally, experience working in digital CMS systems

How We Will Measure Success:

The Senior Marketing Director will be measured by:

  • Marketing contribution to the achievement of Express Script PBM’s and Evernorth’s overall objectives: differentiation, positive marketplace perception, achievement of margin goals for product upsells
  • Effectiveness of marketing strategy (qualitative/quantitative measures to be determined annually by product area/SAM segment; by campaign; by initiative)
  • Feedback from key matrix partners
