Position Summary:
The Director of Marketing is the strategic leader of Pullman Markets marketing function responsible for driving business growth, brand awareness, and market share across our boutique grocery market and four restaurant concepts. This role owns marketing strategy, budget, and business outcomes while leading a team of three: Art Director, Social Media Manager/Photographer, and Events & Community Outreach Manager. Reports directly to the
CMO.
Core Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
○ Develop and execute marketing strategy aligned with revenue targets and brand positioning
○ Own marketing P&L and annual budget, ensuring strategic ROI across all initiatives
○ Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive landscape to identify growth opportunities
○ Set marketing KPIs, review performance metrics, and adjust strategy to maximize impact
○ Represent Pullman Market operations in corporate planning and adapt company-wide initiatives for local market
○ Drive brand positioning that differentiates Pullman while maintaining consistency across properties
Campaign & Content Strategy
○ Create integrated marketing campaigns that build brand equity, drive customer acquisition, and increase sales
○ Develop multi-concept strategy balancing individual restaurant identities with cohesive Pullman positioning
○ Provide creative briefs to Art Director with clear objectives, time parameters and strategic requirements
○ Review and approve all creative concepts, ensuring strategic alignment before execution
○ Manage content strategy and editorial calendar across all channels: website, email, social media, print
○ Oversee go-to-market strategy for new product lines and events
Digital Marketing & Technology
○ Own digital marketing strategy: website, SEO/SEM, paid media, email marketing, CRM systems
○ Manage paid advertising budget across platforms (Google, Meta), optimizing for ROI
○ Oversee email marketing strategy, segmentation, automation, and performance analytics
○ Implement and manage marketing technology stack including CRM, analytics tools, reservation integrations
○ Analyze website analytics and conversion funnels to optimize customer journey
○ Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and email marketing best practices
Public Relations & Partnerships
○ Manage relationship with external PR agency
○ Oversee press communications, media outreach, and public statements
○ Develop sustainability marketing highlighting farm partnerships and Michelin Green Star achievements
○ Build strategic partnerships with San Antonio cultural institutions and community organizations
○ Cultivate relationships with local media, food writers, and influencers
○ Manage crisis communications and online review response strategy
Team Leadership
○ Lead, mentor, and develop three direct reports
○ Conduct performance reviews, establish KPIs, and provide professional development opportunities
○ Foster culture of innovation, collaboration, and data-driven decision-making
○ Facilitate weekly team meetings, monthly strategy sessions, and quarterly planning
○ Empower team execution while maintaining strategic oversight
Decision Authority
○ Final approval on all marketing strategy, campaign concepts, budget allocations, and major initiatives
○ Approve all budget expenditures and vendor contracts; delegate spending authority to Art Director within defined parameters
○ Authority to pause or redirect initiatives not meeting performance targets
○ Final approval on external communications, press releases, and media responses
Multi-Concept Leadership
○ Develop differentiated strategies for each concept while maintaining cohesive brand positioning
○ Allocate resources across concepts based on business priorities and expected ROI
○ Execute city-specific opportunities including festivals and community partnerships
○ Coordinate cross-promotional initiatives between market and restaurants to maximize customer lifetime value
Qualifications
○ 10+ years progressive marketing experience with 5+ years in senior leadership role
○ Proven track record driving measurable business growth in hospitality, retail, or food &
beverage
○ Deep expertise in digital marketing: SEO/SEM, paid media, email marketing, CRM systems
○ Strong analytical skills translating data insights into actionable strategies
○ Experience managing marketing budgets and optimizing ROI
○ Exceptional leadership building and developing high-performing teams
○ Outstanding strategic thinking balanced with execution excellence
○ Excellent communication and presentation skills
○ Experience with multi-unit, multi-concept brands
○ Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or Communications; MBA preferred
