The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is seeking a highly organized and motivated fundraising professional to provide donor, fundraising, and operational support to the local development team. This self-starting individual will hold select frontline fundraising responsibilities while serving as a key driver of donor stewardship, event execution, volunteer engagement, and constituent data management in the Greater New York territory. A successful candidate will manage and steward a portfolio of individual giving donors, foundation/grant applications, and third-party/DIY fundraising initiatives. This role will also provide event and administrative support across key market events including State of Diabetes, Evening to End Diabetes, and Step Out Walk: serving as a staff lead for select event-day volunteer functions and supporting operational execution to ensure fundraising success across the market.

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills; the ability to balance frontline fundraising with operational execution; and a collaborative, service-oriented approach.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Fundraising and Relationship Building

  • Responsible for fundraising through foundation/grant proposals, individual giving, and third-party/DIY/community fundraisers.
  • Manage and review daily campaign data through reports, dashboards, and revenue analysis to identify opportunities to drive campaign revenue.
  • Regularly monitor fundraising portfolio performance to ensure accurate forecasting, recognition of fundraising and recruitment milestones, and maximized retention and revenue.
  • Conduct data mining to identify and acquire corporate partners, foundations, sponsors, and community leaders.
  • Support development team fundraising goals through high-touch phone calls, written correspondence, follow-up, stewardship strategies, and strong customer service.
  • Provide excellent donor and event support by responding to inquires in a timely, solutions-oriented manner.
  • Attend local tabling and outreach opportunities to generate community support and drive participation in local fundraising events.
  • Assist with writing, editing, and packaging funding proposals and sponsorship materials.
  • Manage grant, foundation, and corporate partner online application submissions.
  • Maintain accurate and complete prospect, donor, and constituent records in CRM systems and trackers, ensuring contacts, next steps, and tasks are consistently documented.
  • Manage and execute donor mailings, acknowledgements, and related communications.
  • Support national initiatives and implement local social media strategies to promote fundraising, event participation, and community engagement.
  • Provide general administrative support, including serving as a liaison to the service center, processing payables and receivables, assisting with budget entry, and supporting Executive Director constituent and donor interactions.
  • Ensure compliance with ADA policies, including risk management, event protocols, cash handling, and financial controls.
  • Support additional fundraising events, activities, and programs as assigned.

Volunteer Engagement

  • Provide event operations for market events including State of Diabetes, Evening to End Diabetes, and Step Out Walk (pre-event planning, event-day execution, and post-event follow-up as needed). ADA has full-service event production support.
  • Staff lead for event volunteers tasked with event day execution and experience, including auction, VIP experience, participants living with diabetes, and other local event day opportunities.
  • Supports the development of the market’s local pipeline of constituents and event leaders, to drive market activity, leading all prospect research and data entry management.

Mission Integration

  • Identify and implement marketing opportunities, partnerships, influencer relationships, and other opportunities to increase ADA’s presence and awareness within assigned market territory that drive business goals.
  • Supports and maintains the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of ADA.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 1+ years of professional experience in fundraising, events, and volunteerism.
  • Ability to present ADA’s mission and how to get involved with groups of all sizes.
  • Ability to recruit and lead a group of volunteers to support event day execution.
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting individuals to support an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize and motivate individuals to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for growth in relationships.
  • Ability to organize time effectively and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Initiative and independence, combined with the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with a variety of constituencies.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, creativity, independent judgment, attention to detail, accuracy, strong editing skills, and follow-through.
  • Knowledge of software including Microsoft, DonorDrive (or other P2P platforms), and CRM.
  • Reliable transportation for travel.
  • Ability to travel as needed for meetings and events required.
  • Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends as needed to support events.
  • Authorization to work in the US required.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to fifteen pounds.
  • Must live within 50 miles of New York City, NY.
