The Managing Director, Marketing Communications is a senior leadership position responsible for developing and executing a holistic, integrated communications strategy that strengthens our brand's reputation, drives business objectives, and ensures a consistent voice across all internal and external channels.
This leader will oversee a comprehensive portfolio including internal communications, external communications, public and media relations, reputation management, and corporate organic social media. The ideal candidate is strategic, thrives on being held accountable to results and has a proven track record of leading high-performing teams, managing complex communications challenges, and leveraging diverse channels to deliver business impact.
The Managing Director, Marketing Communications will:* Strategic Leadership: Develop, champion and execute a unified Marketing Communications strategy that aligns with overall business goals and marketing objectives. Develop strategies, including KPI’s, for individual channels based on the overall Marketing Communications plan
- External Communications & Public Relations: Lead the strategy for all external communications, including media relations, thought leadership, and executive communications. Serve as a key spokesperson for the company, build relationships with top-tier media, and secure high-impact earned media placements
- Internal Communications: Build and manage an effective internal communications function to inform, engage, and inspire employees across all divisions of Pennymac. Develop strategies to communicate key business initiatives, influence company culture and ensure executive leadership visibility
- Reputation Management & Crisis Communications: Serve as the strategic lead for Pennymac’s reputation management. Determine the third parties that are influential to our reputation online, with particular attention to those influencing AI Search. Proactively identify and mitigate potential reputational risks. Develop and execute a comprehensive crisis communications plan, including swift and effective response strategies to protect and preserve the company's brand and reputation
- Organic Social Media: Oversee the strategic direction for all organic social media channels. Ensure content is on-brand, engaging, and aligned with company narratives. Lead the community management, influencer strategy/collaborations and social media response strategy to build a positive and active brand community
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of communications and social media professionals. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Set clear performance metrics and ensure the team has the resources and skills needed to succeed
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with other marketing leaders (e.g., Performance Marketing, Brand, Product Marketing), as well as key stakeholders in Legal, HR, and Sales, to ensure communications strategies are aligned and effective
- Measurement & Analytics: Establish clear KPIs and metrics to measure the effectiveness of all communications programs. Use data-driven insights to inform future strategy and demonstrate the ROI of communications efforts to the CMO and senior leadership
- Enterprise MarTech: Develop and own the MarTech roadmap for the Communications and Social Media functions. Own the operating systems that enable scale, security and workflows for the team
What You’ll Bring:
- 15+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, public relations, or integrated marketing, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
- Proven experience in managing a diverse communications portfolio, including external PR, internal communications, and social media
- Deep expertise in crisis and reputation management, with a track record of successfully navigating complex issues
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences
- Data Driven - proven experience in using data to both inform strategy and to develop meaningful GTM approaches that drive business outcomes
- Deep, current working knowledge of major social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, etc) including their algorithms, best practices for organic and paid content, and an ability to stay current on their evolving capabilities
- Expert-level proficiency in selection, implementing and managing the Enterprise Social Media technology stack including social media management and publishing, monitoring/listening and integration into marketing CRM and analytics
- Ability to establish, document and enforce public relations and social media policies, guidelines and governance processes to ensure brand safety, legal and compliance adherence
- Results-driven with a strong bias for action and exceptional quantitative and analytical skills; an ability to turn data and observations into action and comfortable being held accountable to delivering quantitatively measured results
- A change agent that possesses the gravitas, emotional intelligence and intellectual firepower to persuade senior stakeholders to embrace Marketing Communications, especially PR and Social Media, as strategic tools that deliver business value while building alignment and buy-in across all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to be a hands-on leader (able to develop strategy and also execute with excellence) and work effectively in a fast-paced and matrixed environment while being held accountable for achieving desired impact
- Strong executive presence and the ability to serve as a trusted advisor to the Chairman, President, CMO, CHRO and other C-Suite leaders
- Ideally possesses a contemporary knowledge of the mortgage industry. Financial Services experience preferred; B:B experience and regulated industries (healthcare, pharma) important
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree is a plus
