Job Overview
The Head of Marketing is responsible for leading and executing the marketing strategy for Altius Dispensaries in Illinois and New Jersey. This role drives brand awareness, customer engagement, and revenue growth while ensuring full compliance with state and federal cannabis advertising regulations.
The ideal candidate has strong experience in marketing leadership within a highly regulated industry, understands state-specific cannabis marketing restrictions, and can build scalable, compliant campaigns across digital, in-store, and community channels.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Marketing Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy aligned with company goals and state-specific market conditions in Illinois and New Jersey.
- Partner with DOO leadership to align marketing initiatives with revenue growth, brand positioning, and customer experience objectives.
Brand Management
- Lead brand identity, messaging, and creative direction across all platforms.
- Ensure consistent branding across digital, in-store, and promotional materials while adhering to state cannabis advertising laws.
Digital & Performance Marketing
- Oversee SEO, SEM, email marketing, website content, and compliant digital advertising.
- Optimize online presence to increase traffic, conversion, and customer retention within regulatory limits.
Social Media & Community Engagement
- Manage social media strategy across approved platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, etc.), ensuring content complies with Illinois and New Jersey cannabis marketing regulations, including age-gating and content restrictions.
- Build authentic community engagement while avoiding prohibited promotional practices.
Customer Loyalty & Retention
- Design and manage compliant customer loyalty programs in accordance with state laws.
- Analyze customer data to drive repeat visits, lifetime value, and personalized marketing initiatives.
Content Creation & Messaging
- Oversee the creation of educational, compliant, and engaging content such as blogs, emails, product descriptions, and in-store signage.
- Ensure all messaging avoids medical or unsubstantiated claims.
Promotions, Events & Product Launches
- Plan and execute compliant in-store promotions, product launches, and events.
- Ensure all promotions meet state-specific restrictions on discounts, giveaways, and advertising.
Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
- Ensure all marketing activities comply with Illinois and New Jersey cannabis regulations, including advertising, promotions, age restrictions, and consumer protection laws.
- Stay current on regulatory changes and proactively adjust strategies as needed.
Market Research & Analytics
- Conduct market research on consumer trends, competitors, and regional performance.
- Analyze campaign performance, customer behavior, and sales data to guide decision-making.
Budget & Performance Management
- Develop and manage the marketing budget, ensuring strong ROI and cost-effective execution.
- Track KPIs and present regular performance reports to senior leadership.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Sales, Compliance, and Retail teams.
Influencer & Partnership Management
- Build compliant relationships with influencers, vendors, and brand partners.
- Ensure all partnerships meet state advertising and endorsement guidelines.
Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support business needs.
Physical & Mental Demands
- Ability to work in both office and retail dispensary environments.
- Ability to travel between Illinois and New Jersey locations as needed.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or related field (required).
- Proven experience in a senior marketing role; experience in cannabis or another regulated industry strongly preferred.
- Deep understanding of digital marketing, social media strategy, and content development.
- Working knowledge of Illinois and New Jersey cannabis advertising regulations.
- Strong leadership, project management, and analytical skills.
- Experience managing budgets and measuring marketing ROI.
- Creative, strategic, and proactive problem-solver.
Additional Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required state cannabis clearances or badges (Illinois and/or New Jersey).

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
