Job Description: Overview To work closely with executive stakeholders providing strategic brand development, enhancing marketing initiatives, and supporting revenue goals through concise communication with members of the media, public engagement, and sponsored commitments. Essential Functions* Develops, manages, and measures Public Relations campaigns that effectively communicate the overall brand identity of the VWPAH.

  • Coordinates with the marketing department to identify targeted opportunities to enhance exposure and drive consumer ticketing purchases.
  • Coordinates with PR managers press agents, tour managers, journalists, and affiliates; leads acquisition of promotional materials and marketing assets for inclusion in traditional and digital media buys.
  • Acts as executive producers of the monthly At the Van Wezel TV show and is responsible for scripting, coordinating, and planning all aspects of production and must be able to meet strict deadlines and scheduling.
  • May co-host the monthly At the Van Wezel TV show with the Executive Director.
  • Provides day-to-day communications with patrons, sponsors, and the public at large, engaging in a professional and exceptional customer experience.
  • Develops, creates, and distributes press releases, media content and speaking engagements for television, radio, print and digital influencers, communicate logistics and acquire delivery of assets.
  • Maintains and nurtures press relations, coordinates interviews, and develops initiatives that engage audiences and increase exposure of the VWPAH.
  • Manages, aligns, and directs public relations activities with the Digital Associate in support of digital initiatives (i.e., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and revenue goals through content curation and creation.
  • Manages all PR programs across digital channels.
  • Oversees program book insertion schedules and production.
  • Supervises message on hold schedules.
  • Maintains and updates list of contacts including news, radio, and other media sources.
  • Maintains and archives copies of newspaper, magazine, or other articles featuring the VWPAH.
  • Oversees the production and execution of message on hold and prerecorded preshow announcements.
  • Attends VW performances, as needed, for the purpose of analyzing audience marketing evaluation, quality of show and audience responses along with handling media requests.

Minimum Qualifications* Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, or similar field,

  • Two (2) years of experience in the performing arts field, non-profit, media or advertising agency,
  • Or the equivalent in education, training, and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Job Based Competencies* Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office, Cison/Muck Rack, and other software products utilized in desktop publishing applications, for the development of sophisticated marketing and promotional materials.

  • Substantial knowledge of fundamental marketing techniques.
  • Ability to understand, calculate, tabulate, and report on financials and maintain financial files as required.
  • Knowledge of various methods used in production of written, graphic, print, video, and audio material.
  • Knowledge of English composition, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with community groups, volunteers, business sponsors and the media.
  • Ability to develop a general knowledge and understanding of departmental programs, policies, and objectives.
  • Ability to use imagination and creativity in developing ideas and materials.
  • Ability to adapt to changing workplace situations and circumstances.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with promoters, City officials, associates, Sarasota Performing Arts Foundation, volunteers, and the public.
  • Ability to work closely with dignitaries, highly recognized artists, and persons of high distinction or fame.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of discretion with internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work changing and irregular shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibility Under the direction of and responsible to the Department Head or designated representative. Plans, assigns, directs, supervises and evaluates the work of the VWPAH marketing staff and other staff as assigned. Physical Requirements This position is office work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Position requires walking, stooping, bending, reaching, fingering, and standing for short periods of time. Position also requires hearing to accurately understand information at normal spoken word levels and visual acuity for reviewing, checking, preparing, and maintaining written and computer files. Manual dexterity to operate standard office, data entry, and word processing equipment is required. Public Contact Maintenance of effective and harmonious contacts is an essential component of this position. The incumbent interacts frequently and extensively with a wide variety of individuals and groups, including artists, artist’s agents, management companies, leaders in business, civic and cultural communities, hall patrons and others. Substantial tact and diplomatic skills are required to deal positively, credibly, and effectively with the various concerns about the hall, its facility policy, and its operation.
