Role
The Director of Community Affairs serves as a strategic leader responsible for advancing the credit union’s Purpose and brand within the community. This role builds and nurtures relationships with key community organizations, stakeholders, and influencers to foster partnerships that drive positive social impact and business growth.
The Director oversees all community engagement initiatives, including sponsorships, Foundation fundraising, and volunteer programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and values. Additionally, the Director develops and executes comprehensive strategies to increase awareness of the credit union’s products, services, and philanthropic efforts, both internally and externally. This position acts as a visible ambassador for the credit union, representing its interests at public events, in the media, and within industry networks, while continuously seeking innovative opportunities to enhance member and community well-being.
MajorDutiesand****Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and expand relationships with community organizations, leaders, and influencers to enhance the credit union’s visibility and reputation. Identify and pursue new partnership opportunities that align with the credit union’s strategic objectives.
- Serve as Executive Director of the Community First Cares Foundation, overseeing daily operations, board engagement, and strategic direction. Lead efforts to maximize the Foundation’s impact through effective program management, fundraising, and community outreach.
- Organize and execute special events, sponsorships, and volunteer activities that promote the credit union’s brand and foster employee engagement. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure events support business objectives and community impact.
- Work with branch leaders and internal stakeholders to leverage community relationships for business growth, lead generation, and member acquisition. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of community initiatives in driving business outcomes.
- Partner with marketing and other departments to develop campaigns and initiatives that improve member satisfaction and Net Promoter Score. Ensure consistent messaging and alignment between community affairs and overall marketing strategy.
- Provide effective leadership and guidance to direct reports, fostering professional growth and a culture of high performance. Establish clear performance metrics, conduct regular evaluations, and implement strategies to enhance team productivity and engagement. Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven culture that aligns with the credit union’s values and enhances organizational reputation.
- Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Knowledge and Skills
EXPERIENCE - Five years to eight years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES - A college degree.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS - The ability to motivate or influence internal or external senior level professionals is a critical part of the job, requiring a significant level of influence and trust. Obtaining cooperation and agreement on important outcomes via frequently complex, senior level dialogues, as well as a professional level of written communication skills are essential to the position.
OTHER SKILLS - Background in public relations or marketing. Good interpersonal skills are a must.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 4-6 hours per day. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
