Position Overview This role blends strategic leadership, technical expertise, and effective team management to drive the success of our data teams, platforms, and initiatives. The Director plays a crucial role in shaping our data strategy, ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence within the Data team.
What You Do
- Oversee the high-level architectural design and evolution of core data platforms and integrated applications.
- Lead, mentor, and develop direct reports, including technical leads, ensuring effective management of a team of more than ten full-time employees and contractors.
- Define and champion the overall technical vision and strategic roadmap for the organization’s data landscape, providing expert guidance on the adoption and application of best practices and new technologies.
- Partner with Staff-level engineers and technical leads to translate the strategic roadmap into executable architecture, ensuring the technical integrity of all major project deliveries.
- Evaluate, select, and manage relationships with key data technology vendors and strategic partners.
- Optimize the overall structure of the Data team by defining clear roles and responsibilities, and allocate resources effectively according to business goals.
- Strategically assess and project overall team capacity and inform resourcing plans for current and future initiatives.
- Ensure the successful delivery, operationalization, and support of data products and services by setting delivery standards and validating technical approaches defined by senior team members.
- Collaborate with Product Ownership and Project Management teams to continuously refine and optimize team development and delivery processes.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse internal and external stakeholders, particularly business leaders.
- Actively engage with business leaders to deeply understand strategic objectives and ensure alignment of data initiatives with the organization’s key growth areas.
- Help to lead the exploration, strategic assessment, and governed adoption of Generative AI and advanced machine learning technologies.
Qualifications
What You Bring
- Extensive experience (7-10 years) in data technology environments with a minimum of 5 years in a people management or technical leadership role
- Expertise in managing and optimizing cloud-based data ecosystems (especially Snowflake, AWS, Python, and dbt), with a focus on cost control, scalability, and security best practices
- Proven experience defining and executing a multi-year data strategy and architecture roadmap for an entire business unit or product line
- Demonstrable experience in data governance, quality assurance strategy, and data privacy regulations
- Exceptional ability to communicate complex architectural concepts and tradeoffs to highly technical teams and non-technical executive stakeholders
- Prior experience successfully guiding teams through the integration of AI/ML capabilities into user-facing production applications is a bonus
- Familiarity with modern software development lifecycle practices (Agile Scrum, CI/CD), specifically applied to data development
Annual base salary for positions at this level and job group is $160,500 to $175,000, and your base pay will depend on the qualifications, experience, skills, and competencies required for this job.
