Friends of Strays is seeking a part-time Communications & Marketing Assistant to help tell the world about our lifesaving work. The assistant role will have the opportunity to dive into day-to-day nonprofit work and support the Communications & Marketing Director in a wide range of marketing initiatives. A successful assistant will learn how to prioritize and juggle competing tasks while meeting deadlines and producing high quality results.
This job is all about the teamwork. You’ll need to integrate yourself into every department and know the organization in and out to tell our stories. And at the end of your day, there are lots of cute animals to snuggle with!
Position Summary:
The Communications & Marketing Assistant supports the department by helping create digital and print content, producing basic design assets, assisting with email and website updates, and providing general support for campaigns and appeals. This role focuses on execution and day-to-day content needs under the direction of the Communications & Marketing Director.
Key Responsibilities:
· Create and manage online content, posting, engagement, and community interactions for the shelter’s main accounts as well as the MEOW Now TNVR Facebook page.
· Keep up with new trends and emerging platforms
· Identify potential collaborations with local businesses, influencers, and more
· Take photos of adoptable pets for use on socials, emails, website, and more
· Contribute to storybank of notable pets, procedures, and more, for use in development and marketing efforts
· Track analytics and prepare basic monthly performance summaries
· Plan and execute 1-2 blog posts per month for SEO and SME purposes with correlating social posts
Secondary Responsibilities
· Assist with email creation and scheduling
· Support website updates and maintenance
· Assist with collateral production and general marketing tasks
· Provide support for campaigns, appeals, and events

Qualifications & Expectations:
· 1-2 years in a similar professional role and/or strong portfolio with relevant degree in Marketing, Communications, or Journalism
· Working knowledge of Meta Business Suite, Canva, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
· Working knowledge of photography and videography best practices, including post-editing
· Excellent storytelling skills – both written and visual. Putting prompts in ChatGPT does not count.
· Thorough understanding of AP Style preferred
· Excellent time management skills and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines at once
· Attention to detail
· Ability to maintain, at all times, a helpful and professional tone during engagement with the public
· Animal handling experience preferred
· 2-3 professional references
