Job Description: The Folger Shakespeare Library, located on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, is seeking a Marketing and Editorial Production Coordinator to join the Marketing and Communications team. This individual, under the supervision of the Associate Director of Digital Experience, will support editorial workflow for a variety of digital media managed by the Marketing and Communications team, including the Folger website. The Coordinator will lead production for multiple key marketing deliverables, including email newsletters for internal and external audiences. Additionally, the Coordinator will provide administrative and project support for both the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Marketing and Communications team as a whole.

The Marketing and Communications team works to bring local and national audiences into awareness of and engagement with the Folger and its mission-based work, while supporting other departments across the Folger in driving ticket sales, visitor attendance, donations, and memberships. As part of this team, the individual will be working to advance Shakespeare, the arts, and the humanities as tools for creative expression and critical thinking in today’s world.

The Marketing and Editorial Production Coordinator plays an essential role in the Marketing and Communications team's work. They will be expected to write quickly, persuasively, and clearly. They will also be expected to edit not only for grammar, style, and accuracy, but also for structure and layout. This individual will provide administrative and editorial support to the department to keep many projects on track, coordinate or participate in collaborative projects, and take point on production for various marketing touchpoints published by the Marketing and Communications team. They will be expected to develop and build positive working relationships within the department, with external stakeholders, and with other departments at the Folger.

The schedule for this role is Monday-Friday 9:30am-5:30pm. This position will occasionally have extra evening and weekend hours with scheduled programs and marketing events at the Folger and offsite. This position will work primarily on-site with openness to hybrid modality when not assisting with in-person duties onsite or at other venues in the DMV. The selected candidate will need to be within a commutable distance to the D.C. office (DC, MD, VA) by their start date. Compensation:* This is a weekly-paid hourly position at a rate of $27.47-28.57 per hour and a 35-hour work week. This role is eligible for overtime pay over 40 hours/week.

Duties:

Marketing and Communications Coordination and Production (~80%)* Under the direction of the Associate Director of Digital Experience, produces and supports editorial workflow for a variety of digital media and collateral created by the Marketing and Communications team.

  • Assists in maintaining and updating content on the Folger website, including event pages, in a timely manner with an awareness of information hierarchies.
  • Takes point on production duties for various pieces of marketing content, including transcripts and other tasks related to the publication of the biweekly Shakespeare Unlimited podcast and the assembly, editing, and layout of content for weekly and biweekly marketing e-newsletters.
  • Organizes content and takes point on layout and distribution of monthly staff newsletter, Folger Insider.
  • Participates in the creation and distribution of communications to mailing lists.
  • Writes and edits copy for the website, programs, magazine, and other marketing collateral as needed.
  • Updates local calendars and events listings on websites that serve readerships that overlap with Folger audiences.
  • Distributes marketing collateral throughout the community and represents the Folger at local outreach events.
  • Tracks and reports on marketing engagement and outreach metrics as needed.

Executive and Administrative Support (~10%)* Provides direct administrative support to the Director of Marketing and Communications by scheduling meetings for the Marketing and Communications director and team.

  • Coordinates logistics for departmental and cross-departmental meetings, ensuring agendas, materials, and follow-up actions are organized and completed.
  • Processes invoices and payments, tracks expenses, and assists in monitoring project and departmental budgets.
  • Undertakes research and drafts correspondence, reports, and presentations as needed.
  • Coordinates technology and meeting setup for virtual and in-person events, presentations, and meetings.
  • Maintains organized departmental files, records, and project documentation.

Departmental Support (~10%)* Coordinates administrative aspects of the Marketing and Communications department, including scheduling, event logistics, general departmental inquiries, and communication with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Serves as a liaison between the Marketing and Communications team and external partners including universities, influencers, and community organizations.
  • Tracks and compiles lists of community events in the DMV for potential marketing and outreach touchpoints. Keeps record of pricing, deadlines, and specifications, and manages participation logistics and staffing as needed.
  • Maintains departmental databases, mailing lists, and communication calendars to ensure alignment across projects.
  • Assists with departmental reports, presentations, and other administrative projects as needed.

Education and Experience:* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; background in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or Digital Media preferred.

  • Minimum of two years of experience providing administrative, editorial, or project coordination support required.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple responsibilities and maintain accountability for projects, tasks, and relationships.
  • Experience working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and diverse experiences required.
  • Experience supporting marketing, communications, or public-facing programs desired.

Skills and Knowledge:* Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal staff and external stakeholders.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to quickly produce clear, accurate copy for various media and platforms.
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms, website content management systems, image editing software, and/or CRM tools (Tessitura preferred).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under deadlines in a fast-paced environment; High attention to detail is essential.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and exercises discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-based environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat required.
  • Experience with WordPress, InDesign, Airtable, and Tessitura desirable but not required.
  • Familiarity with marketing concepts, terminology, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
