Summary:

The Social Media Manager enhances and manages the organization's online presence and reputation through social media platforms. They develop and implement social media strategies, create engaging content, monitor the social inbox, interact with followers, analyze performance, run ads, and stay up-to-date on the latest trends.

Specific Duties

  • Manage Community Engagement—Foster vibrant, interactive online communities by moderating inbound social messages, responding to audience interactions, and acting as the first line of contact for identifying and escalating social media threats against the organization.
  • Ensure Brand Consistency Across Platforms – Maintain a unified brand voice and visual identity across all social media channels, ensuring messaging reflects organizational values and priorities.
  • Create and Curate Compelling Content—Develop engaging, brand-aligned editorial content, including serving as on-screen talent, in collaboration with creative teams, filmmakers, and partners to attract, retain, and grow audiences.
  • Monitor and Analyze Performance—Track, interpret, and report on social media analytics and KPIs, applying data insights to refine strategies and improve campaign performance.
  • Collaborate with Partners and Influencers—Maintain relationships with collaborators, influencers, and industry partners to continue expanding reach and amplify campaigns. Create social media toolkits for partners.
  • Oversee Paid Social Media Campaigns—Manage and optimize paid advertising efforts to meet campaign objectives and maximize return on investment, working in collaboration with the Digital Content team.
  • Support Cross-Departmental Marketing Initiatives – Collaborate with intra- and interdepartmental teams to create and adapt content for social media and promotional campaigns that amplify ITVS and Independent Lens brands.

  • Deep understanding of social media platforms and their respective audiences, algorithms, and content strategies.
  • Experience in social media management, project management, communications tools, and analytics dashboards.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and self-directed with demonstrated ability to take initiative, do research before acting, prioritize tasks, and think strategically.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and “can do” attitude; comfortable with ambiguity, solutions-driven, and in possession of a sense of humor
  • Adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.
  • Willing to support leadership’s decision and direction in a positive, professional, and cooperative manner.

Requirements:

  • Preferred: Two (2) years of experience as a social media marketer responsible for crafting and curating daily posts and managing broad social media campaigns
  • Preferred: Demonstrated portfolio of successful social campaigns.
  • Preferred: Experience building collaborative relationships among a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Preferred: Interest in independent films, documentaries, community engagement, and/or broadcast television a plus.

Compensation

ITVS is a financial steward of public funds and committed to pay transparency, as well as providing equitable and competitive compensation for staff. For this role the pay is $33.00/hour and all incumbent new hires base pay will begin at $33.00/hour. This is a non-exempt 3-month temporary full-time position, 40 hours/week.

Hybrid Work

Creativity, collaboration and building community are essential to ITVS’ long-term health and sustainability. Our goal is to provide a flexible hybrid model of in-person and remote work that supports individual productivity, teamwork, and an organizational culture fueled in part by being present with one another. To achieve this goal, in-office attendance, employees are required to work in our San Francisco office at least two (2) days a week, including an all-staff in-office day on Thursdays.
