Job Summary
The Copywriter/PR Strategist is a community-facing and client-facing position primarily responsible for developing and executing public relations strategies on behalf of company clients. This role requires thoughtful strategic thinking and hands-on implementation of PR campaigns, including producing compelling copy that results in press releases, ghost-written articles, Op-eds, blogs, email marketing messaging, and the like.

Successful Applicants will live in Ventura County, working from their home office with onsite client attendance related to PR activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Public Relations: Work closely with the Communications Manager to develop PR strategies that position clients as credible and newsworthy for journalists, reporters, podcasters, bloggers, etc. Together, proactively identify editorial opportunities and emerging trends that align with client goals. Pitch stories and secure coverage by cultivating and maintaining strong media/press relationships across industries. The key to success includes thinking outside the box to obtain media coverage for clients.
  • Press Relations: Strategically and proactively identify editorial/media opportunities. Continually build out press lists specific for all clients and establish relationships with press broadly and within specific industries. Build relations with non-traditional media (bloggers, podcasters, influencers). As needed, attend client events to meet with press.
  • Copywriting: Craft thoughtfully and professionally written content including press releases, media pitches, ghostwritten articles, op-eds, blogs, web copy, email marketing, advertising copy, and more. Includes originating copy while also providing support in editing departmental copy.
  • Client Relationship Management: Work alongside Communications Manager in assigned client relationship meetings for clients whose contracts have a heavy PR focus, offering monthly direction to ensure alignment between PR initiatives and broader marketing and brand objectives. Build trusted client relationships by extracting key insights, providing strategic guidance, and translating them into actionable marketing goals. Collaboratively identify PR outreach needs and develop strategies aligned with client goals and budget.
  • Email Marketing: Provide support, as needed, with the end-to-end production of high-quality client email campaigns. Ensure design, branding, and messaging accuracy while applying best practices to maximize engagement and align with client communications goals.
  • Metrics Development: Support departmental development of PR/Communications success metrics for all clients on a quarterly basis.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in public relations, media relations, and/or strategic communications (agency experience a plus)
  • Demonstrated success in building press relationships and securing media coverage
  • Demonstrate resilience in the face of challenges, possess a keen sense of where to search for information, and the ability to proactively seek out knowledge when needed.
  • Solid project management skills with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Tech-savvy; comfortable learning new tools and platforms quickly
  • Professional demeanor, customer-service mindset, and collaborative spirit
  • Must have a deep understanding of marketing principles
  • Must be California-based with reliable home office (computer with camera, phone, high-speed internet)

Pay: $27.00 - $30.00 per hour
